In my opinion the super T10 is stronger than a wide ratio muncie weaker than a close ratio non m22 muncie definitely weaker than a m22 but a good box for decent power heavy street car without a ton of power. My last 4 speed was my 70 monte carlo before the switch to LS & auto.

Well, yes, that is correct-----for 69-later Muncies. The A-B-C after the date code did not begin until about Oct 68 for 69-later Muncies. Beginning with the 66 M22, ALL M22 Muncies had a drain plug and M20 and M21 did not have a drain plug. BUUUUUUUUUUT, people, such as me, who rebuild 4spds frequently install a drain plug.

With a 2:73 gear set you should stick with the M20 as its 2.56 gearing is a better 1st gear to go with a high gear like that rear end. The M22's 2.20 1st gear will need some help taking off. You could always go with a 3.73 to go with your M22 (which that trans does not look to be) and your new big block could be a 496.

Rick, I'm not the expert on these here, DZauto is but here it goes. The M22 is the "rockcrusher" tranny. It's a bit more heavy duty than the M21 and much rarer. It's called a rockcrusher due to it straighter cut gears which whine ( and are stronger ). The M21 is a standard Muncie 4 speed. They both have the same ratios beginning with a 2.20 1st.
